Canadian, Sniper is a 2024 Canadian film that is a drama directed by Michel Kandinsky and has François Arnaud as its main character. The picture tells about the psychological issue of war PTSD of an Indian army sniper who returns from his tour to Afghanistan only to find peace in a secluded northern farm which is far from easy. The story depicts the complexities of reality and hallucination and Phenom’s constant struggle to control his violent tendencies while seeking the history of abuse of his sick father.
This film has been exhibited in a number of film festivals one of which is the Arizona International Film Festival where this film was screened in April 2024.
Francois Arnaud, who acted in The Borgias and Rapid Eye Movement, gives a great act as the sniper who is a sociopath and has issues to deal with. The Sheriff is acted by Lothaire Bluteau and Julie is played by Sophie Desmarais.
Canadian, Sniper appropriately illustrates PTSD enabling the audience to go into the splintered mind of the main character allowing them to enjoy the movie more. The film also uses an extended flashback and self-reflective interpretation technique to enable the audience to understand the hardships that war veterans go through during re-adaptation. .
As for our last recommendation for films for those interested in exploring similar themes that “Hyena Road” in 2015 was a Canadian film that depicts the realities of armed conflict and the effects that military life has on the human mind.
Currently, the film “Canadian, Sniper” seems to have a very limited release that is now seen only in film festivals. For the latest updates regarding release and streaming schedules, it would be best to check official film festival sites of well known film archives.
