Production Insights:
One of the many directions in which the film excels is its atmospheric cinematography and attention to world building. The Vord possesses visually horrific quality which is accentuated by the deserted sites where the film was shot. M.T. Maliha uses subdued colors as well as glaring ones to contribute a feeling of doom while the films score builds up stress through the use of whispers, chants, or melodies with unnerving qualities.
The script introduces rich backstories grounded on Norse mythology and ancient Scandinavian history, which serve to root the supernatural phenomena in reality. Framing the story as an internal as well as a spiritual struggle, as the director did, enriches the story, taking it a few steps away from standard horror mechanics.
Themes and Cultural Significance:
- Paganism vs. Christianity:
The clash between Jillian’s Pagan upbringing and her interaction with the Church explores themes of identity and the tension between ancient traditions and modern religious constructs. - Redemption and Corruption:
